Ben brings a unique history to contemporary music.
Ben Jossi is an emerging composer, arranger, and educator based in Chicago, with roots in the Twin Cities. Known for his versatility, Ben has made his mark across film, radio, theater, and live performance. As a skilled arranger, transcriber, and orchestrator, Ben has collaborated with musicians and directors from Broadway productions such as Death Becomes Her, Some Like It Hot, and Into the Woods.
His early talents as a jazz saxophonist earned him distinguished awards, including the Louis Armstrong Award, the Woody Herman Award, and the Founders Award from Walker West Music Academy, alongside performance accolades from the University of Notre Dame, Elmhurst University, and UW Eau Claire.
Ben’s formal education culminated in a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Production from Columbia College Chicago, where he studied under GRAMMY-nominated Ilya Levinson, Dan White, and Sharel Cassity. He has since worked with artists like Emmy-winning Brandon Campbell, and Dynamic Music Partners, and his compositions have been performed by members of the Chicago Composers Orchestra and Dal Niente.
A prominent performer in the Chicago jazz scene, Ben’s collaborations include gigs with Woody Goss (Vulfpeck), Kendrick Scott, Isaiah Sharkey (D'Angelo), and Tia Fuller (Beyoncé). As a bandleader, his group, Retrospect, has performed at Columbia College’s Manifest Festival, WCRX’s Sessions@33, and the Epiphany Center for the Arts. Ben’s innovative spirit blends the history of jazz and classical music with a dynamic flair, pushing the boundaries of American music while ensuring its traditions remain vibrant and relevant.
